In het midden de Noordoostpolder ligt een eiland op het droge: Schokland. Een plaats waar veel verhalen samenkomen. Vanaf de prehistorie is het gebied bewoond geweest. Bij het ontstaan van de Zuiderzee werd Schokland een eiland. Bijna zou het strookje land worden verzwolgen door de zee – het eiland werd zelfs ontruimd – maar tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog kwam het plotseling in een zee van polderklei te liggen.
Linda onderzoekt haar Schokker roots. Wat deden haar voorouders op Schokland en hoe zag het leven er in die tijd uit? Bas vertelt over zijn fascinatie voor het gebied Schokland, dat nu UNESCO Werelderfgoed is en sinds 1947 een museum herbergt.
In het museum en rondom het eiland zijn tal van sporen van het verleden te vinden. Van de prehistorische holenbeer tot vliegtuigwrakken. De sporen wijzen op een veranderend landschap. Wat vertelt Schokland over Flevoland en hoe verhouden wij ons tot deze verhalen?
